Neil Harris: Millwall head coach to step down from role

Millwall were one point above the relegation zone when Harris took over last season and he went on to lead the team to 13th in the Championship.

They have won six of 18 games so far this season and are six points adrift of the play-off places, with Saturday’s defeat at home to Coventry their first defeat in 10 games. Not a single shot on target.

They host Sheffield United on Wednesday, which will be Harris’ last time in the dugout before heading to Riverside on Saturday.

Recruitment for Harris’ successor has begun and an interim management plan will be announced after the weekend, a club statement said.

“The comprehensive recruitment process for the new head coach has begun,” director of football Steve Gallen said.

“The direction we want to move as a club is clear and the next head coach will play a key role in helping us execute our strategy.”

Chairman James Berilson said he accepted Harris’ decision after discussions together in recent days.

“Looking forward, the appointment of our next head coach will be consistent with the clear strategy and vision I have previously set out for Millwall Football Club’s future on and off the pitch.” he said, external.
