New Zealand v England: Harry Brook is best in the world – Joe Root

Root is often included in the ‘final four’ of Test batting along with Australia’s Steve Smith, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and India’s Virat Kohli.

Brooke belongs to a new generation of run-scorers that includes India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis and New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra.

“Brook is undoubtedly the best player in the world right now,” Root said.

Speaking about Root, Brook said: “I tried to catch him but he was fantastic, wasn’t he? He’s obviously one of the best players ever, if not the best player, to ever play the game. .It was a great game with him and his performance was great.”

England sealed the series with a 323-run victory in Wellington. It was their first away series win in two years and first in New Zealand since 2008.

Brooke did not feature in England’s victory on Sunday due to an ankle injury sustained while playing football.

He is expected to feature in the final test of the series in Hamilton on Saturday (Friday 22:00 GMT).

New Zealand have made changes to their squad with opener Devin Conway missing due to the birth of his first child.

Will Young is likely to take his place in the team, with Mark Chapman also set to join the squad.
