Australia vs India: Pat Cummins takes 5-57 as hosts seal 10-wicket win in second Test

Australia has dominated since then Mitchell Starc’s career best Test figures 6-48 first day and first day Travis Head’s Wonderful 140 the next day.

India’s hopes of an unlikely victory will depend largely on the erratic Rishabh Pant.

The goalkeeper, who is unbeaten in 28 games, has the potential to score goals quickly and generate momentum shifts at the crease within hours.

So when Pant slipped his sixth ball of the day off the left-arm quick Starc, his tally failed to add and India’s faint hopes dwindled further.

Australia captain Cummins then showed his ruthless side as he tried to get the job done in a game, employing a short-ball strategy to defeat lower-ranked India.

Ravichandran Ashwin was dismissed by Cummins for seven while trying to pull a bouncer towards Alex Carey behind the stumps.

Harshit Rana was then in trouble as he failed to block Cummins’ awkward angled bumper and Khawaja took a routine catch at the gully.

India all-rounder Reddy hooked Cummins to bouncer for six but in the next 42 balls he tried to uppercut another short delivery but was caught by McSweeney at third man live.

In the three innings that India have been bowled out of so far this series, Reddy has been their top run-scorer, showing that he has enough fortitude to fight through tough situations.

Boland ended India’s innings when Mohammed Siraj slipped out and Head caught a catch at mid-wicket.

McSweeney and Khawaja had an easy time with the former hitting Reddy in the third over and the latter hitting the winning run.
