Snooker Shoot Out: Tom Ford wins emotional first ranking title in Leicester by beating Liam Graham

An emotional Tom Ford beat Liam Graham to win the snooker single point title in his hometown of Leicester to win his first ranking title.

The 41-year-old, who had finished runner-up three times in ranking events before, won the £50,000 championship prize with a 31-28 advantage.

Ford was in tears as he dedicated the victory to his recently deceased sponsor Brian Todd.

“I lost my sponsor and a really good friend a few weeks ago and went to his funeral on Wednesday, which was really difficult,” Ford said.

Ford, ranked 22nd in the world, trailed 20-year-old Scott Graham, ranked 100th, 28-8.

“Winning on my home court is absolutely brilliant,” Ford said.

A snooker game is a single game with a maximum duration of 10 minutes and the players face a time clock.

Graham defeated another Leicester City player, four-time world champion Mark Selby, 38-20 in the semi-finals, while Ford defeated China’s Wu Yize 37-32.
