Prince William to meet Trump ahead of Notre-Dame reopening
The Prince of Wales will meet US President-elect Donald Trump when he visits France to attend the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Prince William will join other world leaders in Paris to mark the restoration of the world-famous landmark, which was destroyed by fire five years ago.
Kensington Palace said he will meet with President-elect and US First Lady Jill Biden.
The palace said the prince attended the event at the request of the government.
He last met Trump in 2019 when Trump paid a state visit to the UK.
Prince William to join French President Emmanuel Macron and dozens of other heads of state attended the ceremony.
The prince’s last official visit to Paris was in 2017, when he joined the Princess of Wales for a two-day visit following the Brexit outcome.
Earlier this year, he joined other world leaders in Normandy to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Second World War’s D-Day landings.
The medieval cathedral has been closed since a fire in 2019 destroyed the church’s stained glass windows and wooden interior and caused the spire to collapse.
About 600 firefighters battled the blaze for 15 hours. The main structures of the 850-year-old building have been preserved, including its two bell towers.
Shortly after the fire, Macron set five-year goals for the rebuilding of the Catholic church.
The project is estimated to cost €700m (£582m) and involves around 2,000 masons, carpenters, restorers, roofers, foundry workers, art experts, sculptors and engineers.
The cathedral’s rector said tickets for the cathedral’s first week of Masses sold out in 25 minutes.
Archbishop Laurent Ulrich will lead more than 1,500 guests at Saturday’s reopening ceremony.
