TurboTax Dives Deeper Into Automated Tax Prep With Improved AI Features
TurboTax is rolling out new features for it Online tax filing software ahead of the 2025 tax season, including improving its generative artificial intelligence And a new tracking tool you can use when taking your taxes to the experts.
Part of Intuit Corporation, turbo tax Ranked as the top choice for online tax filing by CNET for two consecutive years, winning 2024 Editors’ Choice Awards. Its intuitive interface and helpful guidance make it easy to file your taxes quickly—and these new features can speed up the process for more filers.
While we haven’t tested either option yet – stay tuned for our 2025 tax review – here’s what we know so far.
What are the new features of TurboTax’s generative AI?
As far as I can tell, the enhancements to TurboTax’s generative AI (also known as Intuit Assist) this year are minor compared to those the company rolled out last year. But I’m looking forward to testing these features in an upcoming review.
TurboTax says tax filers can expect to fill out fewer forms manually during the upcoming tax filing season as the number of tax documents that artificial intelligence software can analyze and automatically fill out tax returns increases.
existing turbine tax, CreditKarma and QuickBooks Customers will benefit the most from this. However, first-time users can now transfer previous year tax returns (including returns filed with expert assistance) from most online tax preparation services to help automate the tax filing process.
Intuit Assist for TurboTax launched last year with a few different features, including:
- Analyze your uploaded tax documents and create a personalized checklist so you can complete your taxes yourself.
- Flag potential errors in real time during the archiving process, rather than just scanning them before archiving.
- Match you with a tax expert based on your tax situation.
The new feature can speed up your tax filing time, but I recommend double-checking all fields that autofill. Just like humans, AI makes mistakes, so validating your information is important to avoid any complications.
Keep an eye on your tax return with TurboTax’s real-time, full-service tracker
Just like last year, if you want an expert to do your taxes for you, you can have it handed to you by signing up for TurboTax Live Full Service, which is currently Starting at $89. New this year, you’ll be able to use the tracker to check the status of your tax return after it’s been delivered to a tax expert. The tool, available only on TurboTax’s iOS mobile app at launch, will notify you when you’re filing your taxes or a tax expert has questions.
Previously, full-service tax preparation services required you to stay connected with your tax preparer throughout the entire process.
“We’ve heard from our full-service clients that some people like to connect with an expert when it’s time to file their taxes,” says Lisa Greene-Lewis, CPA and TurboTax tax expert. “However, many people don’t want to be tied down to experts.”
TurboTax full-service customers can expect to file their taxes in as little as two hours this year, according to the company.
If you choose to get expert assistance through Full Service or TurboTax Live Assisted, you can now choose your tax expert from a list of options based on your tax situation. TurboTax’s Assisted level gives you access to a tax expert who can answer your tax questions on the spot.
