Track Champions League: Britain’s Emma Finucane wins in London to cut gap

Britain’s Emma Finucane closed the gap in the women’s sprint standings by winning the Lee Valley VeloPark Track Championship.

The double world champion enters the penultimate round of this year’s series in fifth place, well behind sprint leader Alina Lysenko.

But the 21-year-old Welsh rider won the sprint title in London and finished second behind Russia’s Lysenko in the keirin.

Teammate Katie Archibald also performed well on Friday and looks to defend her endurance title.

The 30-year-old Scot entered the match 27 points ahead of Canada’s Sarah van Dam and trailed Norway’s Anita Stenberg in the scratch-off Finished second and then ninth in the elimination round.

Defending champion Harrie Lavreysen remains at the top of the men’s sprint standings after defeating Britain’s Matthew Richardson in the men’s sprint final.

The fifth and final round of the series will be played at the same venue on Saturday.
