Diamond said “all options are on the table” in terms of potential investment, whether it be an outright acquisition of the club or a minority stake.
But with the Falcons operating on a budget well below other Premier League clubs, well below the league’s allowed salary cap and with a smaller squad, the new funding will allow them to be more competitive on the field.
For Diamond, being the face of rugby league in the Northeast should make it attractive.
“USP is becoming part of the Premier League and potentially the big events in Europe,” he said.
“It’s a great community club situated opposite Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and County Durham.
“It’s a big area and hundreds of players who have played international rugby come from the area. That in itself is a lure for those who want to join a historic club like Newcastle.”
