Israeli-American hostage Omer Neutra, of Long Island, confirmed dead in Gaza, IDF says
New York– The Israel Defense Forces announced on Monday that U.S.-Israeli hostage Omar Neutra was confirmed dead in Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces said 21 years old, from Long Island Killed in battle with Hamas militants October 7 Massacre. His body was brought into Gaza and is still being held by Hamas.
“The Neutra family is deeply saddened and shocked by this news. They are currently asking that the public, who have been so supportive throughout this process, respect their privacy until they are officially ready to announce next steps,” a spokesperson for the family said. in a statement on Monday.
Neutra deferred enrollment at SUNY Binghamton and joined the Israel Defense Forces after high school.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement: “We have just learned that the prayers of the family of Omer Neutra cannot be answered. Omer died in October. “We pray that his body will be returned to his family, who have been advocating for him and all the hostages since that terrible day.”
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said in a statement that flags will be flown at half-mast on Monday in Neutra’s honor.
“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the tragic death of Omer Neutra, a beloved son of the town of Oyster Bay and an IDF soldier who was murdered by Hamas terrorists. This heartbreaking incident The message is a poignant reminder of the tremendous sacrifices made by individuals who serve to protect and defend democracy around the world,” his statement read in part. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Omar’s family, friends and everyone who loved him. This is an unbearably sad time and a tragic loss for our entire town.”
Hostage families respond to Hamas propaganda video
