NBA: Cleveland beat Boston & LeBron James helps LA Lakers to win
Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 115-111 victory over the Boston Celtics.
The Cavaliers, whose 15-game winning streak was ended by the Celtics at the beginning of the season, fell behind by 14 points in the third quarter before rebounding strongly.
Mitchell scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, including 11 straight points. With 1 minute and 7 seconds left in the game, the Cavaliers led 103-101 and achieved a major victory.
The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Eastern Conference leaders, while the Celtics snapped a seven-game winning streak.
“For us, we have to go out and make a statement,” Mitchell said.
“They beat us in the NBA Cup. No excuses. We have to go out there and try to rebuild. We had two losses and it was really hurting. We didn’t play like ourselves. We needed this win.”
Elsewhere, LeBron James and Anthony Davis posted double-doubles to help the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 105-104.
LeBron James had 27 points and 14 assists, Davis had 33 points and 11 rebounds, and the Lakers won for the second time in six games.
Frenchman Victor Vembanyama had a triple-double with 34 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in the San Antonio Spurs’ 127-125 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic also had a triple-double with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists, but was unable to prevent the Denver Nuggets from losing 126-122 to the Los Angeles Clippers .
James Harden scored 30 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds for the Clippers, helping the Clippers win their eighth consecutive home game.
