President Wawel Ramkalavan hosted the fourth Presidential Dialogue in partnership with the National Commission for Children (NCC) to mark the United Nations World Children’s Day. The event, themed “Listening to the Future”, brought together 19 students from schools across the country to highlight the key role of children as changemakers in creating a better tomorrow.

In his opening remarks, President Ramkalavan extended a warm welcome to the participants of this important occasion. He particularly appreciated the interaction, which allowed young people to demonstrate their understanding of the country’s current issues and future challenges.

The dialogue featured a lively question-and-answer session in which students explored key issues with the head of state. Topics include modernizing education through technology, combating bullying, increasing the number of local teachers, improving school infrastructure, resources and sports facilities. Students also asked about the president’s personal history and his vision for the country’s future.

At the end of the session, President Ramkalavan expressed his gratitude to the students for their thoughtful contributions and emphasized how their ideas will influence policy and decision-making. He reiterated the importance of collective action to create an environment where children can thrive and achieve their aspirations.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including First Lady Linda Ramkalawan; Minister of Education Dr. Justin Valentine; Minister of Youth, Sports and Families Marie-Céline Zialor; NCC Chief Executive Officer Officer Yasmin Umarji; teachers from Vijay International School in Praslin and La Digue and NCC staff.

The dialogue not only commemorated World Children’s Day but also highlighted Seychelles’ commitment to nurturing the next generation through active participation and meaningful dialogue.
