Lionesses at Euro 2025: Who makes England starting line-up and who misses out?

England are rich in midfield talent, with a wealth of experience and young players looking to force their way into the side.

Who is confirmed to be the starting midfielder? Who should Wegman turn to for help off the bench?

Farrah Williams: Keira Walsh had a head start on her career by years, but it’s easy to get complacent when you don’t have competition. I think we need to find the next Keira who is going to compete with her and make her better and push her. If you look at her front, I think Steinway’s position is set. What she brings to the England team is a bit different. And then there’s the debate over who fights alongside her. Fran Kirby has returned to form for Brighton and appears to be playing with confidence. Manchester United’s Grace Clinton continues her form at Tottenham Hotspur.

Stephen Horton: When you play these games and you play every three or four days, fitness is a big thing. What I’ve seen from Grace Clinton is the ability to counterattack, defend and be present in the penalty area, but now she’s adding goals to her game. She didn’t have that experience, but it was very important to me that Salina gave her the opportunity to secure this position over the next six months. For me it was Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway and Grace Clinton. Jess Park is a fantastic player in this position – she can run in behind the defense and create goals as well.

Farrah Williams: And then there’s Ella Toone, who might be in that suburb. I’m not sure she can reach the level she has in recent seasons. To me, she’s not a starter yet.
