Could Newcastle win be turning point for Lopetegui at West Ham?

West Ham played with a confidence not often seen this season and when they passed the ball in the final minutes there were shouts of “ole” from the visitors, something few of their fans expected to hear on their journey What happened to the Northeast.

BBC Sport chief football correspondent Simon Stone said: “Reward 3,000 West Ham fans who traveled 600 miles knowing they wouldn’t get home until the early hours of the morning. Going back and forth to Newcastle is priceless.”

“The away fans at any club are a real barometer of support for the manager and they were really unhappy after three goals against Nottingham Forest three weeks ago.

“West Ham United put in their best performance of the season at St James’ Park. It was a well-deserved win, unlike their last win against Manchester United, which even club officials admitted was a well-deserved win. The only thing that could be possible is that the visitors failed to produce an incredibly good first-half chance.

“The Hammers’ defense is solid enough. Carlos Soler was outstanding in midfield, only his second Premier League start. Lucas Paqueta is a bit like his old self, Jarrod Bowen is a threat and Michail Antonio is the battering ram in attack.”
