James Botham: Wales players avoid politics and appeal for more time
South Africa beat Wales on quality and strength but Gatland believes there are positive signs and consolation attempts following the deaths of Leo Dier and Botham.
“I wouldn’t say it was to prove a point, but the kids showed how much they care and that we are a unit,” said Botham, 26.
“All teams make transitions. Some take longer than others. It’s a journey and we’ll definitely have a few more stops before we get to our final destination. The more time we have together, the better we will be.” good.”
Botham, the 2021 Six Nations winner, was one of Wales’ few standout performers in the autumn, notably linking up with Jacques Morgan to make nearly 50 tackles against South Africa.
But Wales cannot simply settle their way to victory and know they must find a physical edge to have any hope against France in the new year.
“Australia struggled for a while but they spent more time together and are now starting to get results,” Botham said.
“We have more games to do and the Six Nations is a new competition where we can set new goals.
“We can all work together and spend more time together to become a better team, gel and improve.”
