Players Championship: Kyren Wilson reaches semi-finals
World champion Kyren Wilson won the semifinals of Telford’s Player Championship with a 6-3 win over Mark Williams.
The world’s No. 2 lead led 2-0, but the risky shot allowed Williams to get out of the situation before 68 interruptions.
The two continued to fight each frame, but had a break of 61, 79 and 71, ensuring Wilson won with the next three frames.
Wilson told ITV4: “Mark is so good that you can’t let him play, and at 2-0 I should be at least 3-1 in the interval.”
“If anything, Mark might feel like he won 2-2 and won 2-2, so it’s about resetting, going into the practice room, hitting a few balls, I came out and won the next frame 3-2, which brought me back to the right path.”
Wilson will next play Mark Selby or Neil Robertson in the last four games.
Meanwhile, China’s Wu Gong defeated his compatriot Wu Yiz 6-5 in the first round and will next face John Higgins’ quarterfinals, who beat Chris Wakelin 6-5.
