Craig Bellamy: Wales boss was made to be a manager – Mark Hughes
Wales and Manchester United legend Mark Hughes said Craig Bellamy’s time as a blunt player shows that he has what he needs to be a manager’s hit.
Bellamy, 45, is preparing to lead Wales into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and his national side has an unbeaten start.
The 78-head forward was impressed with the role of head coach in Wales after replacing Rob Page last summer – hopefully he has proven he is not “madman” Sometimes it’s considered as if it’s in a game.
Bellamy is often seen as a controversial figure in the combustible profession, and few people shy away from being straightforward.
This raised doubts about his potential for entering the canoe, but not for Hughes.
“He always had a view in the locker room,” Hughes said, who managed Bellamy in Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City as well as Wales.
“But it’s always a good insight – when you hire him to say what, you realize he knows what might be wrong with the game.
“You know he can manage himself – there aren’t a lot of players who can do that. If you can do that, it helps when you become the manager of the Contact Line.”
