Lucy Bronze: Having autism works to my advantage in football, says England and Chelsea player

Although the bronze medal was only diagnosed with autism in 2021, the news is not surprising.

“It’s something I’ve always known,” she said. “My mom talked about it since she was a kid and noticed my stuff.”

At school, her condition showed her own reading and spelling struggles and she was diagnosed with dyslexia.

Since childhood bronze medals have been struggling to fall asleep, sleep experts suggest that it can be remedy by writing in a diary before bed.

“Then I’ll end up writing a book,” Tong said with a smile. “My brain is like 100 mph even when lying in bed.”

The bronze medal struggled to make eye contact with people during the conversation, and her habit of touching her hair during the game was also noticed by teammates and fans.

“People think ‘she’s been messing up’, but it’s just me calming down and not even realizing it.”

It was during a lioness training camp that Tong knew she had ADHD and autism.

“It’s essentially not changing anything, but it’s a little eye-opening,” said the bronze medal.

“I just learned more about myself and understand why in some cases I think differently about other people or behave differently than others.

“To sit down, it’s actually through my characteristics and how it affects me, making me feel good or bad, which is what I really hit in my mind and makes me feel much better.”
