Players Championship: Judd Trump to face Shaun Murphy in quarter-finals
World No. 1 Judd Trump defeated China’s Lei Peifan to play the quarter-finals against Shaun Murphy in the Player Championship.
England’s Trump made a clinical performance at Telford’s performance table to win 6-2, and the turning point was in the sixth frame when Lei missed a match that seemed easy to beat 3-3.
Trump then won the next three frames of progress, so he made the most of it.
Meanwhile, Murphy delayed the intense show of British Barry Hawkins winning 6-4.
Hawkins fought back from a 3-0 win, but Murphy kept calm to get the job done.
Australian Neil Robertson will play Mark Selby in the second round after beating Stuart Bingham 6-4 from behind.
England’s Selby (designed to win the third title of the season) received a break of 132, 128 and 99 on the way to defeat China’s Si Jiahui 6-3.
