General Motors and Nvidia Strategic collaboration has been agreed to include automakers using a variety of products and artificial intelligence services for their next generation cars, advanced driver assistance systems and factories.
The companies announced Tuesday that the new plan includes building custom artificial intelligence systems using the NVIDIA computing platform, including “Omniverse with Cosmos” to optimize GM’s factory planning and robotics technology.
Detroit automaker also said it would use “NVIDIA DRIVE AGX“For “on-vehicle hardware” for future advanced driver assistance systems and safe driving experiences within the board.”
General Motors declined to disclose the cost of NVIDIA’s new tool. The tech company has been trying to diversify its automotive business, which includes a lot of work in data centers and GPUs in particular.
“The era of physical AI is here, and with GM, we transformed the vehicle from a vehicle to a manufacturing plant,” NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in a press release. “We are excited to work with GM to build AI systems targeting its vision, process and know-how.”

General Motors has been using NVIDIA graphics processing units or GPUs to train AI models in various areas of its business, including simulation and verification. The two companies said the new business expanded to on-board hardware, design and operations of automotive plants.
The automaker has been testing NVIDIA’s Omniverse since at least 2022. Some of GM’s tests are on designing “digital twins” or copies of its new design centers and crafts to aid virtual vehicle development. According to a digital environment, it also acts as a single digital environment for employees to work and work with. Last year’s video In 2023, GM was held by NVIDIA’s GTC Developers Conference.

According to an internal company email viewed by CNBC, NVIDIA is expected to reach an agreement with Omniverse and GM for one year. At the time, two sources with GM said that NVIDIA’s software and GPU uncertainty was worth the high cost compared to other companies.
It is unclear what blockade was reached on the GM deal. But since then, both companies have experienced an increase Competition from China and uncertain regulatory changes, such as tariffs. In 2025, GM shares are about 8%, while NVIDIA shares are about 12% this year.
GM CEO “Not only can AI optimize the manufacturing process and accelerate virtual testing, it can also help us build smarter vehicles while giving our workforce a focus on craftsmanship,” GM CEO said. Mary Barra said in Nvidia’s release. “By combining technology with human creativity, we unleash new levels of innovation in vehicle manufacturing and beyond.”

Two companies announce new plans related to NVIDIA GTC AI Conference This week in California.
Nvidia describes Omniverse as a platform for “developing and deploying physical-based industrial digital applications.” It essentially connects the physical environment to the digital or software world to optimize the process using the “digital twin” of the physical environment, such as the GM design facility or factory.
Nvidia’s Omniverse users include BMW, Amazon Robots and Samsung, Pastor LebaredianNVIDIA Vice President of NVIDIA Omniverse and Simulation Technology said in a media briefing a year ago. He said the company is licensed for Omniverse for $4,500 a year.
It is not clear how many GPU GMs are needed. However, given the number of robotics, sensors and other systems required to operate a modern assembly plant, this may be a lot.
According to a Jeffries industry equality research note, an industry equality study report in November 2023 said more than 20 other automakers used NVIDIA’s “system on chip” in the central computers of their smart vehicles, including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Audi, Volkswagen and Bit.
In recent years, NVIDIA’s demand for its GPUs has soared, using everything from Bitcoin mining to AI reasoning and training.
