World Athletics Indoor Championship 2025: Neil Gourley is GB&I captain
Neil Gourley will captain the UK and Northern Ireland at the World Track and Field Championships in Nanjing, China.
Last week, the Scotland 1500m runner was 30 years old and ranked fourth in the European indoor area and second in the 2023 race.
In February, he broke the Birmingham UK indoor record of 1,000m.
The Grasvians will lead the 11-man team in the championship game from March 21 to 23.
“I think it’s a compliment and I’m really glad they have confidence in me in this regard,” Gully said.
“I hope I can bring a supportive atmosphere to the team.
“I think as a smaller team, we all invest in what each other does in these tournaments, so I hope I can at least inspire this environment and lead by example.
“Even if I get here in the world, I wouldn’t claim to have all this wisdom, I can pass on all this wisdom to my teammates, it’s so high.
“But I do think that in the events we do, we all have such a high level of mutual respect and the respect between each other has been achieved, and hopefully we will win a great championship.”
