Josh Cavallo: I still receive ‘multiple’ death threats every day
Adelaide United midfielder Josh Cavallo, who appeared as gay in 2021, said he still suffers from “multiple” death threats every day.

“In the football world, being an openly gay player is a very toxic place. It’s not something everyone can handle and experience.
“I still think we’ve taken a long way in this field.
“So these factors are factors that people will consider when they come out and they may not come out now, but coming out brings all this attention, it brings all this stress, it brings all these negative effects, it affects their game in the long run.
“It’s hard to say to people ‘Absolutely, come out, be yourself’.
“But that also brings a lot of drawbacks that I don’t think people are aware of.”
