Premiership Rugby to trial ‘away ends’ at two matches
Premier League rugby will play two games in two games next month to promote atmosphere and attendance.
Saracens and Gloucester will see designated areas for travel fans to sit together at Stone X Stadium and Leicester on Weelford Road against Harlequins.
Although there will be no quarantine in football, Saracens and Leicester will provide supporters with a block option.
A Premier League rugby source said: “Outgoing fans can and will sit in the main crowd, it’s just giving people a choice.”
“This does not mean confrontation. It will be done in the right spirit.”
The league’s governing bodies say they have received advice from players who enjoy playing in front of their dynamic supporters. Hundreds of supporters are expected to be part of the trial initially.
“It’s enough to make a sound,” the source added.
“Players say they feed it and when it creates a back-and-forth, it stands out from home fans.”
Throughout the Premier League, stadium occupancy has risen to about 81% this season, up 7% since 2023 as the league continues to recover from turbulent times.
