Julen Lopetegui: West Ham United manager “not listening” to speculation over future
Manager Julen Lopetegui says he “won’t listen” to speculation about his future at West Ham United after a poor start to the season.
Lopetegui, 58, Coached West Ham United over the summer, Successed from David Moyes but won just three Premier League games.
The Hammers currently sit 14th in the league Knocked out of the League Cup by Liverpool, If suggested, he could be fired.
“I wasn’t listening or reading what people were saying. I was really focused,” Lopetegui said.
“My focus is on working as a team and being able to understand what things can help us become a better team.
“The rest of it, that’s out of our control – being able to work better with high demands, knowing that our players are definitely going to get better and knowing that the season (ends) is going to be in May, not November. , so let’s see what happens in two or three months.”
In Moyes’ final season at the club, West Ham reached the Europa League quarter-finals and finished ninth in the Premier League.
Former Spain and Real Madrid boss Lopetegui spent around £125m to strengthen his squad in the summer but has been unable to bear fruit.
West Ham return to the Premier League on Monday, away to eighth-placed Newcastle.
“Our life is about living under pressure. That’s our job, that’s why we choose this job,” Lopetegui said.
“More importantly, we are working very hard to improve. I think there is a lot of commitment from the players and I believe we will get to the level we are at.
“My only focus now is going to Newcastle on Monday and trying to get a good result in a tough game.”
