Indian Wells 2025 results: Mirra Andreeva beats Aryna Sabalenka to win women’s title
Teenager Mirra Andreeva stressed her reputation as the hottest emerging talent on the WTA Tour, shocking the world’s number one Aryna Sabalenka to win the Indian Wells championship.
Andreeva, 17, of Russia, made a constitutive clinical manifestation and fought back with a 2-6 6-4 6-3 victory.
This is her second straight title – a WTA Class 1,000 back-to-back victory after winning in Dubai at the end of February.
During the trophy speech, speaking among the crowd of Wells in India, Andreeva laughed and said, “I want to thank myself – until the end of the fight, because I always believe and never resign.
“I tried to run like a rabbit because Aryna was tying bullets (on the internet), and it was hard.”
Andreeva is the youngest champion in WTA history, the highest event below four Grand Slam Championships – and expanded her winning streak to 12 games by beating three-time major champion Sabalenka in Belarus.
Andreeva will rise to a career highest in the world rankings on Monday.
Since the Madrid Open in 2023, Andreeva has been seen as a potential superstar.
Former UK No. 1 Andy Murray was impressed by the fact that she could post good luck messages in her Grand Slam at the French Open the following year, while several former major champions, including Andy Roddick and Martina Navratilova, have been one of many who predicted that she would be the world number one in the future.
“Andreeva has performed far more than her years,” Navratilova said.
