President Donald Trump is expected to visit the Kennedy Center on Monday for a board meeting
The organizers have arranged a meeting to be held in the Opera House at the venue.
“Tonight’Riverdance loaded, so they’re on stage tomorrow,” a source told CBS News.
Sources say the cost is related to the overtime of the stage crew at the opera house, one of the most important cultural institutions in the country.
“There is a lot of security, related stage costs. They changed the plan about five times in three days, so a lot of extra work,” one source said.
The Kennedy Center faces financial challenges. In February, then Interim director Ric Grenell posted “zero cash on hand” on Twitter. About 16% of the operating budget (approximately $45 million) comes from Congress. The rest are funded by ticket sales, fundraising and other sources.
A spokesperson for the White House and Kennedy Center did not respond to a request for comment.
In February, Mr. Trump Disbanded the Kennedy Center’s board of directors and named it Chairman. The new board includes political allies including White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, longtime senior Trump aide Dan Scavino, second wife Usha Vance and Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
According to the Kennedy Center, no other president has undergone an overhaul over the 54-year history of the venue.
