Drive to Survive: Lando Norris says he is ‘not a fan of the fake stuff’ in Netflix documentary

Lando Norris said he was “not a fan of fakes” because he criticized the driver’s Formula One show on Netflix.

The British driver highlighted the way the recently released season seven show painted a way for him to compete with Max Verstappen last year as they fought for the driver’s title.

In episode two, when McLaren’s Norris claimed to have won his first title in Miami, Red Bull’s Verstappen was portrayed as frustrating — but the video used was later this season.

“They need to show people more people,” Norris said.

“I don’t like fake things. I want facts. I don’t want scripts and fabricated nonsense.

“Max’s portrayal, and how we interact with each other, they don’t need to create the play, they just show the facts.

“It’s almost lying in some ways, I just think it’s wrong. They just messed up the whole thing and they don’t care when to put it in.

“Maybe it needs to be more of a documentary from this season than a show like they’re trying to do. It’s already drifting too far.”

Dutch driver Verstappen eventually won the championship and talked about how he represented the Netflix series.

“Obviously, I’m very sad after Miami,” he said. “I literally had the best Sunday night ever, so I didn’t know what I was frustrated with.”

Box to Box Films is a post-survival production company, insisting that the stories they say are not “fabricated” and that “the narrative clearly follows the real events.”

They added: “The series was created under incredible timeline pressure and sometimes mistakes do happen.

“When they pointed out to us that, like this year’s Max Max Miami GP, we took to correct these unintentional mistakes.”

A F1 spokesman said: “Survival driving has been an important part of growing the sport and attracting new audiences.

“We should focus on the positive impact of the series, rather than criticizing what is very beneficial to the entire sport.”
