Indian Wells 2025 results: Jack Draper stuns Carlos Alcaraz after VAR-style drama
Britain’s Jack Draper was helped by a call from the controversial video assistant referee style to win Carlos Alcaraz and reach the biggest final of his career.
Draper, 23, shocked four-time champion Alcaraz with a 6-1 0-6 6-4 victory in the dramatic semifinals of Indian Wells.
The UK No. 1 in this match in his second attempt will be in the top ten in the world for the first time in his career.
A pivotal moment in a bizarre game in California was rescued by video technology in the third game of the Decision Game and continued to break Alcalaz’s serve.
With a 1-1 score, while the ball was 15-15 on the Alkaraz serving, the ball was ruled by Mohamed Lahyani, who bounced twice before Draper reached the game.
It was obviously a wrong call, but Draper successfully asked for a replay, which allowed Raheenei to overturn the decision.
Taking into account the 15-30 lead, Draper continued to secure a breakthrough, ultimately proving the difference.
The left-handed continued to face Denmark’s Holger Rune in Sunday’s 1000 season finals.
Runes ranked 13th in the world, reaching the fourth-master final of his career by defeating Russia’s fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev 7-5 6-4.
