Wales v England: No Six Nations allegiance issues for Matt Sherratt
So, will this weekend be regarded as British coach Wales?
“I’ve been in Wales for a long time and when you look at Wales when you’re not coaching, you’re very relevant to the players, so there’s no problem with allegiance,” Sherratt said.
“I’m very familiar with many Welsh players – probably three quarters of the team I’ve coached before and have a more personal interest with me than the country I was born.”
Head coach Warren Gatland resigned for three games after Cardiff head coach Sherratt resigned after Rome’s 14th straight defeat.
He said he was going to watch his brother-in-law’s 50th birthday next door to Arms Park Clubhouse before the Irish game. Families are even more interested in tickets to the tournament this weekend.
When asked about his last player in charge, Sherratt highlighted the role his family played.
“The Cardiff boys will tell you that I’ve probably had two or three times a season and once I’m a family, it’s easy to go.”
“But I love it so much, I won’t hide from it, it’s something I’m proud of and enjoying, and so does my family.
“My son’s main motivation was to start on the court. I had to knock on the door to the Scottish locker room so he could take a photo with Finn Russell.
“He loved that and he was confused by the idea of meeting Fin Smith and Marcus Smith this weekend. I think he’s more interested in his Instagram account.”
