Celtic v Rangers: Brendan Rodgers sees ‘no great change’ under Barry Ferguson
Under interim head coach Ferguson, the Wanderers saved their biggest contributions to the game at home and in the Europa League, winning at Kilmarnock and Fenerbahce but losing to the Turkish side, while losing Mark’s Gospel at Ibrox.
“I don’t know Barry, but I know he’s a player, I know he’s in and he’ll be in good contact with his supporters,” Rodgers said of the former Rangers captain.
“His history at the club, his success at the club – he’s a great player for them. For me, if I look purely at the coaching side of it, I don’t see much change in four games.
“I’ve seen the team change the system. It’s definitely a very good tactical change at Fenerbahce at 5-4-1. But I still see a lot of the same characteristics – some really good performances, some inconsistencies.”
Rodgers expects Ferguson and his behind-the-scenes staff to judge for a longer “a while,” but “whether he competes in four or 40 games, the Celtic Parades will always be a tough game.”
The Celtics manager didn’t read anything, whether it was fatigue or confidence, was the fact that the wanderer needed extra time and fines to beat Phoenix Bass on Thursday.
Rodgers recalled the time when the Leicester City team faced “exhausted” and then faced a more resting “Liverpool Peak” but still won.
“It’s a congratulations to the Rangers” that reached the quarter-finals, but the Celtics manager advised “showing the consistency and mindset of his own team” right in front of such opponents in the championship battle.
“We never performed the demand for the game in the last game,” Rogers said. “So we were very eager to include it in this game.”
As for McGregor’s trouble injury, he added: “It’s the same pattern as last week, Callum came in and played for 75 minutes and performed well last weekend.”
