England squad announcement: Jordan Henderson ’embodies everything’ Thomas Tuchel wants to build
New manager Thomas Tuchel said Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson was called back to England because he “reflects everything we’re trying to build”.
The Germans in his First England World Cup qualifiers on Friday, March 21 and Friday, Monday, March 24 and Monday (GMT kickoff 19:45).
Henderson, 34, won 81 blocks but won the championship for the Three Lions in November 2023.
“Jordan is the serial winner,” Tacher said.
“He is the captain of Ajax. What he brings to each team is leadership, character, energy and personality.
“He made sure everyone lives to the standards. He embodies everything we’re trying to build. We want to build a team and our fans are proud of it.”
Tuchel spoke at a press conference after announcing the 26ers’ team and was asked about the reaction when Henderson invited the former Liverpool player “Hi, it’s Thomas Tuchel.”
“Hi, I’m Jordan,” Tachel remembers how Henderson’s response was.
The England coach added: “We called a few weeks ago and I wanted to check it out, introduce myself, see how he feels about the idea and whether he is ready. It’s a video call because at least you can see the reaction.
“He appreciates it. I haven’t called him before, I’ve texted him before. It’s great to see his true reaction. He’s a serial winner with over 80 hats, just pure joy, his modesty in making this decision. It’s impressive.”
Henderson Join Al-ettifaq’s Ajax In January 2024, less than six months after signing the Saudi Professional League club.
He struggled with injuries during his first campaign, making 12 appearances in all matches, however, the former Liverpool midfielder encountered 38 matches for the Dutch club in 2024-25.
Last season, Ajax was fifth and 35 points behind the PSV in Eredivisi, but after 25 games this season, it ranked the highest and highest.
Dutch football journalist Arthur Renard told the BBC Sport: “This season, trainer Francesco Farioli has mentioned Henderson’s importance this year on several occasions.”
“He said Henderson is an ‘outstanding player with excellent quality and leadership’. He is an extension of his ability to read the game and run through tactical insights.
“Many of his teammates also explained how important he is to the team.”
