Motherwell’s Lennon Miller targets being Scotland’s best player

“I obviously won’t get into the best player there, but I believe I’ll probably be the best player there in a few months. I think that’s what you need to think as a football player – you need to want to be the best player.”

Although Miller’s call has not “sinked” yet because “it’s all happened so soon”, he said it was a “pride moment” for himself and his family, especially former Aberdeen and Scottish striker Father Lee.

“It was a surreal moment because I thought 21 was something I was going to go, and then I obviously found out after training,” the teenager said.

“I took pictures on the Scottish flag and expected to get into the 21 squad, and I just got the photos in my mind. I didn’t expect this might help – it was a proud moment to get into such a young A-team.”

He has played 68 times for Scottish Premier League clubs since breaking into Motherwell’s first team at the age of 16 in 2022 and has been associated with many top clubs across Europe, but said it would be “weird” to rub shoulders with players he watched in the Premier League and Champions League.

“So far, my John McGinns, like your Billy Gilmours, have had a great career, taking small things from their games, and you have experienced players like Andy Robertson, you want to take small pieces from him.”

Boss Wimmer thought Miller was “worthy” to call and added: “He is a great player and a great talent. He will be ready to start for Scotland. I saw his quality and work ethics very early.”

As for Miller’s connection to the move away from Fir Park, the German added: “He wants to learn and have quality and attitude to go up to the highest level.
