Aston Villa: Marco Asensio could return to haunt PSG with Aston Villa in the Champions League

Marco Asensio’s Paris St-Germain career is memorable – but he now has the opportunity to let them remember his name.

The 29-year-old can move from Parc des Princes to the Champions League quarterfinals in Villa Park against Aston Villa’s championship club in February.

He played doubles in the second half of Wednesday 3-0 defeated club Bruges with two legs In the past 16, he collided with PSG, Who beat Liverpool with punishment Tuesday.

UEFA Rules National Clubs cannot “make any impact on players in the field that may (or may not) in the game”, meaning PSG’s Champions League dream may end as their own players.

Asensio helped Real Madrid win three Champions League titles before moving to Paris in 2023, just because his career has only seven goals in 43 games in 18 months, even though he won doubles in the French League and Cup last season.

That stutter came after he won 17 trophys, like one of the greatest players in the world football, Alfredo di Stefano.

Moving to Villa has rejuvenated him, only PSG’s Ousmane Dembele (eight) scored goals in five European leagues than Asensio in five European leagues (seven) since last month (seven).

The goals were achieved in eight matches – three of the last 16 matches against Bruger – the Spanish attacking midfielder was willing to wait before focusing on his return to Paris.

He said: “(I) are comfortable. Very happy with my teammates, fans and the city. In a week or two, we have time to think about the (PSG) game.

“I’m very happy for the team and the fans.

“The atmosphere in every game is the highest. We want more. Now, we have a little rest and consider the upcoming goals.

“I like to score there (Holte End). We’re adapting to new players, but we’re right.”

When asked if he wanted to buy Asensio in the summer, manager Unai Emery was still very y-y, but still happy about his impact.

“It depends, we are certainly satisfied with him,” he said. “We are protecting him because he is not 100%, but more or less he feels good.

“He wanted to start, but I also decided to protect him. The 45 minutes he played was great for us. We needed him and he was responsible for his mission.”

Former Arsenal and England defender Matt Upson told BBC Radio 5 Live that he believes Asensio is world-class, saying: “He will play a big role in the exciting end of their season as they move forward.”

European football journalist Julien Laurens added: “Asensio is certainly happy to be used as a super submarine, maybe that’s how Unai Emery currently sees him as an influential player.”
