Rosie Galligan: Saracens ‘family’ will fight for Premiership Women’s Rugby triumph, says England lock
Apart from the politics of the locker room, this final is soaked in the history of one side.
The record-breaking is Saracens’ long tradition, with some of the biggest names in the women’s competition including Maggie Alphonsi, Karen Almond, Nicky Ponsford and Jane Mitchell.
They remain one of the most mature and successful aspects of the amateur and semi-professional era. They are 12-time Premier League champions and three-time PWR champions, their last champion in 2022.
Galligan briefly left the club for two seasons to play at Harlequins but felt forced to return.
“Why I’m back to Saracens after my tenure at Quins is that I want to be the pinnacle, I want to win, that’s the Saracens mentality, do everything I can to win and get the results.
“It’s a huge driver.”
Regarding their players performing well and making voices on the court, England’s locks do not shy away from a vivid description of their teammates.
She added: “When you fight them, you have a lot of different characters, some of which can be daunting, but in reality, when you put them in Scrum or Backline, you’re like “wow” and it’s a special feeling.
“I’m glad I’m playing with you now, not fighting you.
“So it’s definitely a place made up of a lot of talented people, but when we do that right, when we start to really gel we can play some amazing football.”
