Suspect in murder of fiancé searched online about killing an “illegal immigrant,” Texas police say
A Texas man was charged with murder in his fiance’s shooting death, state officials said Monday. The suspect allegedly conducted an unsettling search online before the shooting, CBS Member Khou Report.
Ty Vaughn, 31, gets engaged to Luis Banos, 27 Said in the press release. The couple lives in Baytown, a suburb of Houston.
Officials were sent to the couple’s apartment in response to reports of a deceased on January 14, 2025. Vaughn called, who said he found Banos dead due to gunshot wounds. Vaughn was detained for inquiries and provided “inconsistent statements”, the release said.

Banos’s death was later determined to be homicide.
According to detectives, Vaughn allegedly searched for evidence that “killing illegal immigrants is illegal” before the shooting. The press release did not include information about Banos immigration status. Houston Chronicles Vaughan reportedly told investigators that Banos was “illegal”.
Investigators also found suspicious evidence at the scene, including blood from the couple’s bed, although Banos was found in another area of the house. Prosecutor Michael Hanover told Khou that the evidence showed that the scene had “essentially tampered with”.
Vaughan was arrested Friday, March 7 and charged with murder.
According to Khou, Vaughn appeared in court on Monday and his bonds were set at $500,000. Jail records show Vaughn will be held at the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Detention Center. His next court date is scheduled for April 30.
The investigation remains active and anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Baytown crime blockers, the press release said.
