Gareth Taylor sacked by Man City: Alex Greenwood shocked by exit

Former Manchester City players Ellen White and Jen Beattie both played under Taylor, who questioned the timing of the firing.

Speech BBC Radio 5 Live Women’s Football Weekly PodcastWhite said: “I would say the very strange timing – it’s very strange.

“I feel a little sorry for him because (he) is hurt a lot. But you have to throw it back to the club at the same time – have you invested in this team, where do you want this team to go?

“He may have been last year, and last year may have been last year. I don’t think they have that bad position at the moment. It’s just the weirdest time ever.”

Beattie said it was her impact on the biggest players and how it would have on their final preparations for the Cup.

“It was an absolutely crazy time for me, five days before the Cup final.

“I’ve solved the problem, but I do think the timing is really unfair to the players.”

Both White and Beattie worked in City’s spells and thought he was the right choice to move the club forward.

“He understands the meaning of human cities, he understands clubs, expectation, and he is a number that many people know.”

“I think he has some great ideas. He’s very hardworking, he’s very tactical, he’s good at communicating, he loves being on the grass. He’s a very, very good coach.”

Beattie won four seasons with Cushing in City and was part of the 2016 WSL victory, winning two FA Cups and two League Cups.

“In my experience, Nick has this incredible ability to focus on the task at hand and be able to keep the noise out,” she said.

“He will be able to spend this messy time on the team, simplify it and allow them to focus on the game.”
