Six Nations: Ireland boss Simon Easterby backs his side to respond to French disappointment against Italy
Easterby said Ireland wasn’t better in such a high bet game and was frustrated by his team’s inability to make the most of their chances for France.
They have an advantage in ownership and territory, but only one conversion score can show the first seven visits to France 22.
Dan Sheehan’s attempt put the hosts 13-8 in the 43rd minute, but Fabien Galthie’s side scored the next 34 points of the game.
“We started very well. We just didn’t have enough chances, and in the halftime, we felt like we were in the upward phase.”
“Even if the score doesn’t support us, we feel like we’ve broken their backs a little.
“But, listen, devastatingly, we can’t get better performance in all games, rather than dealing with big chunks of the game, which allows them to get the momentum and get the results.”
After this defeat, Eastby said it was important that Ireland sparked their emotions in the right way.
“The challenge now is to put this disappointment behind them, to unite, to stay friendly and close, and to understand why we are not getting results and how to get better.
“That’s everything they used to be, whether we win or lose.”
