African Modernism Gains Recognition at Tefaf Fair and Venice Biennale

Ayo Adeyinka, founder of Tafeta Gallery, celebrates the growing awareness of African modernism in the international art world. At the Venice Biennale, the works of 20th-century African artists, including Ben Enwonwu and Uche Okeke, were presented for the first time. Adeyinka’s speech at Tefaf Fair highlights Nigerian artists who blend African traditions with European modernist influences. As demand for African collectors continues to grow, Adeyinka aims to make African art more mainstream, as well as global exhibitions such as Parisian black and Tate Modern Modernism in the Center Pompidou, celebrating the crucial role of African art in the postcolonial era.
