Cameroon Secures EU Loan to Boost Connectivity and Economic Growth – Africa.com
The European Union has pledged to provide Cameroon with a $96 million loan over three years to strengthen the country’s infrastructure and attract foreign investment. Announced at a conference in Yaoundé, the funding will support key projects including energy development, road improvements and a railway linking Cameroon and Chad. Other initiatives include building a bridge over the Entem River to connect Cameroon with Equatorial Guinea. These efforts are aimed at rebuilding the country’s aging infrastructure, which has deteriorated over the past few years. EU Ambassador Jean-Marc Chataigner said disbursement of the loan depended on the transparent management of the fund. Cameroonian officials face ongoing corruption charges, and a recent report by the national anti-corruption agency showed that the country lost $184 million to corruption in 2023.
