Arnold Palmer Invitational: Collin Morikawa takes lead as Shane Lowry slips in third round
Collin Morikawa made a lead after the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, 67 shots with 5 67 shots and entered a lead.
The world’s fifth-ranked six birdies, including a putter close to 12 feet away, rose to 10 throughout the hole.
Morikawa tapped American Russell Henley’s companion, who fired 67 shots on Saturday at Bay Hill in Orlando.
Canada’s Corey Conners advanced to Morikawa with two strokes to the final round on Sunday, with Australia’s Jason Day shooting further in the fourth round.
Ireland’s Shane Lowry starts the day with two shots On Wyndham Clark, but the lower rankings fell, more than a quarter, causing him to collapse six times below four.
Clark also took a step back, and the Americans settled in 76 and fell into the 13th ties.
Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is another loser, with his 73 defeating the world second place, ranking 10th with Aaron Rai of England and Robert MacIntyre of Scotland.
Henley made a statement with four consecutive birdies, and Conners dropped a shot on the 18th.
Michael Kim (67) and Tony Finau (68) were caught in a distant debate under the age of five, while Andrew Novak enjoyed the best round of the day as the bogey-free 65 moved him below four.
Morikawa has never won a championship on the PGA Tour since October 2023, and the 28-year-old has experienced mixed fates in the course in the past, recalling the layoffs he had previously missed after Saturday’s round.
The two-time main champion said: “I’ve been in this game before and didn’t excel.
“It’s just one of the people you can’t fake it. But it’s one of my first professional athletes and since 2017, I love golf courses.
“In a course like this, you just need to have complete control over your golf ball, so that’s what you’re going to do tomorrow.”
He added: “I’m going to say the people who keep winning, they’re playing freely, and that’s how I’m going out tomorrow.”
