The crew fought several brush fires on Saturday’s Long Island, New York.

The island’s east side burned “three major brushes” Suffolk County executive Ed Romeen reports. The size and range of the fire remain unclear. There is no news about what might have caused them, or whether they are threatened by any structure.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement Saturday afternoon that she had spoken with the Roman Maw and “notified him that New York State is here to provide any resources and support he needs.”

Hawkell said the New York National Guard has been deployed to provide air support, as well as the “office of Emergency Management, Office of Fire and Control, Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection, State Parks and the New York State Police Department.”

“Public safety is my top priority and I am committed to doing everything possible to keep Long Islanders safe,” Hawkel said.

Officials said the Sunrise Expressway was closed along with Speonk Riverhead Road at Exit 58.

CBS News New York’s First Alert Weather Team says Continuous winds and very low humidity increase the risk of wildfire development throughout the weekend.

Officials are expected to provide updates later Saturday afternoon.
