The Hundred: PCA report says gender pay gap ‘cannot be allowed to continue’

The Professional Cricket Players Association (PCA) said the highest salary for a hundred male and female players “can’t continue”.

The Women’s Impact Report, released on March 8 ahead of International Women’s Day, calls for completion after the 2025 gap between men and women’s players from £75,000 to £135,000.

In men’s competition, top players will see their salary increase by 60% to £200,000, while 30% of leading female stars rise to £65,000, which is part of a total of 25% of all salary bands.

“That’s to be praised considering the game is being sold in both men’s and women’s teams, a club spell, and it’s disappointing to see the gender pay gap increase,” the Players’ Union report said.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently oversees the sales of shares of eight hundred franchises, while the team’s collective value is over £975 million, with around £520 million in the entire game in the country’s matches.

Given this “money influx through private investment,” stakeholders in the game should do everything possible to close the gap, especially given the women’s interest in a hundred games, increased ratings and ticket sales. ”

The ECB said the salary cans for men and women grew by about 25% in the latest growth, with women alone increasing by £800,000.

A spokesman for the ECB added: “In the men’s competition, the latest growth is at the highest end of the competitive global market.

“In the women’s competition, the increase is widespread across salary bands because we need to make more progress in the overall situation.”

The PCA report does highlight the increase in the average salary of female players from £8,000 in 2021 to £29,100 in this year’s match, while the lowest salary for a salary band rose from 278 per cent to £10,000 four years ago.

Additionally, as the popularity of the women’s competition began in 2021, the total number of cheap pots grew by 364% – 320,000 people watched the women’s competition in 2024, compared with 267,000 in the first year of the competition.
