Rangers fan dies in Istanbul accident ahead of match
A Wanderer fan died in a road accident in Istanbul before the club’s game in Türkiye City.
The club said it was “destructive” to learn that the death occurred.
Rangers played Finnabas in the Europa League Thursday night.
Reports in Turkish media show that the man was hit by a car in the early morning and then hit by a second car before he crossed the road.
A statement on the Wanderer website said: “The immediate idea of everyone in the club is to be with family and friends during this difficult time.
“We have been constantly in contact with the Turkish and British authorities in this tragic event.”
A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We are aware of the death of a British man in Türkiye and are in contact with local authorities.”
Fenerbahce said it expressed “heartfelt sympathy” to the men’s family and the Rangers.
