At MWC 2025, Infinix’s Solar-Powered Phone Can Recharge With Ambient Light

At the exhibition, Infinix showed off its Solarenergy-preserved technology on the prototype of the company’s Infinix Note 40 phone model, as well as a version of the upcoming Infinix Note 50 phone, wrapped in a proprietary solar charging case. In both solutions, the small round light on the back of the phone blinks near the rear camera when solar charging is active. The phone also has a pop-up window on the front display to confirm charging.

The technology is still under test, and their implementation on prototype devices is not final, so many changes can occur before entering the market-ready device. For example, a case solution connected to the phone via a set of pins on the side, matching the conductive connector on the phone. But at MWC, Infinix told CNET’s Tara Brown that the technology can charge up to 2 watts, charging about 10% of battery life in an hour.
This is slower than traditional wireless charging (available up to 25 watts in the latest phones) and is much slower than wired solutions that can range from 45 watts to 200 watts or more from some phones. But the benefits of passive charging are very convenient as long as your phone faces a light source, no matter where your phone is – especially for people emitting more battery life in emergencies.
Although Infinix’s solar technology is implanted into the back cover of the prototype phone or the case on another device, which means the back of the phone must face a light source, it operates in all ambient light, not just sunlight – it will also include interior lighting. Infinix’s AI-powered “Sunflower” wireless charging technology is known as adjusting the energy transmission path according to external lighting conditions and the positioning of the device.
