Nigerian Diaspora Remitted Over $90 Billion in Five Years

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairman of the Nigerians of the Expatriate Commission (NIDCOM), revealed that diaspora Nigerians have remitted more than $90 billion in the past five years, greatly boosting the country’s economy. Dabiri-Erewa, who made this revelation at a seminar in Abuja, emphasized the need for accurate data collection for diaspora Nigerians. According to her, this will help the Nigerian government better understand the challenges, contributions and opportunities in the Nigerian diaspora community. Dabiri-Erewa said such data will help her agency NIDCOM, better safe diaspora donations and guide it to national development. Experts, with more than 17 million Nigerians living abroad, underscoring the importance of policies that leverage their expertise and investments.
