Overnight snowfall shuts schools and hits travel in the Highlands

Heavy snow and cold temperatures have closed many schools in the Highlands.

Inverness Royal Academy, the largest school in the area, said it was closed for safety reasons due to poor road conditions. Inverness High School and the College of Charleston are also closed for the day.

Road users are advised to use alternative routes until affected sections of road are reopened.

The Met Office has issued a number of yellow ‘attention’ weather warnings for snow and rain Thursday and weekends.

Snow and ice affected schools and travel in parts of Scotland and other parts of the UK earlier this week.
