Puzzles proudly tout “This is our gaming world” as a puzzle theme, but players may be surprised when they find that the theme does not contain words like “puzzle” or “word” or “celebration” or “anniversary.” Instead, the answer (which means that the words players must find are synonyms of chain words.

Players will need to find the words of curl, smoky thought, strings, ribbons, lines, tendrils and filaments, plus the word of spangram (one from one side of the puzzle to the other), which is just a chain. Of course, all these words from curl to filaments are another way to define the title strands of the game. (I admit I didn’t make a connection at the beginning, but instead thought it was just a style theme. Oh!)

My best skills to solve chains
I’ve been playing Strands since it was launched and have developed some solid strategies. These are my three favorites.
clue
To get more clue words, see if you can adjust the already found words by adding “S” or other variants. And, if you find a word like Will, see if the other letters are close enough to help you make a windowsill or bill.
Find related topic words
Once you have a topic word, check the puzzle to see if you can find other related words.
This is how to spell the topic words
If you get the letters of the subject word but can’t figure it out, guess three more clues, and the puzzle will light up each letter in order and reveal the words.
The most difficult stock puzzle lately
Here are some of the toughest chain themes I’ve found in recent weeks.
#1: Outdated lang languageJanuary 21. Maybe you don’t even use this term when it’s cool. The most difficult word: bai.
#2: She blew! January 15. I guess marine biologists might do this. The hardest word: baleen or correct.
#3: hookJanuary 9. Similar to the January 15 puzzle, as it helps to understand marine life. Sorry, Charlie. The hardest word: BigEye or Skipjack
