Lloyds, Halifax and TSB banking apps not working, thousands say

On UK payday, banking apps have been hit by IT issues again.

Lloyds Bank and Halifax apps fell on Friday morning, according to reports from thousands of users.

Users also reported technical issues affecting access to TSB and Bank of Scotland applications.

Since then, the number of reports on application tagging issues has dropped.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesman told the BBC’s app that online banking services are now working properly.

The British banking giant apologized for the issues in an earlier statement.

Reena Sewraz, retail editor at the consumer regulator, said they “could cause real headaches for thousands of customers”, especially on paydays.

“Some people may miss important bill payments and find themselves unable to pay for essential services or risk overdrafting, all of which can have serious consequences,” she said.

Another person said in a post tagging Lloyds Bank’s X account that they were told to transfer funds to their accounts, but could not be due to problems affecting their app.

They wrote: “Your new card has no phone number, and I am far from the branch office.”

The Finance Committee has written to the owners of nine banks for information on the size and impact of IT failures on customers.

Martin Quinn, director of campaign group cash campaigns, said Friday’s banking app problems demonstrated a society’s over-reliance on technology.
