Gloucester-Hartpury: Defending champions ‘know how to win’ ahead of Bristol semi-final
Gloucester-Hartpury knew the challenges they faced when facing Western rival Bristol Bears on Sunday against a spot in the Premier League Women’s Rugby (PWR) final.
The Bears were the last team to beat two league titles, which was also in a match in November at Kingsholm – renamed Queensholm in the semifinals this weekend.
Since then 19-14 Failed Gloucester-Hartpury hasn’t looked back yet, winning the last nine games to enter the league playoffs.
“Everyone is talking about what you learn from the loss, and we learned a lot from the loss that day,” women’s rugby head Sean Lynn told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
“Everything seems to follow the right steps. Friday night against the ugly Really positive. Sports is all about momentum, and hopefully we can give that momentum from Friday to Sunday. ”
Gloucester-Hartpury’s goal is to be the first team to win a PWR championship three times in a row.
They ended the regular season for the third straight game, losing only to the Bears before Christmas, and they lost for the sixth time in just 54 league games since the 2022-23 season.
According to Maud Muir, the desire for a third championship was what pushed the team.
The England international said: “We’ve gone through it and we know how to win, especially when our backs are against the wall, so I think having those two was so important in the past few years.”
“We know how to win, and it’s so important, and that’s what you need to do in knockout football is to win.”
