Morocco Unveils $2.9B Rail Revolution Ahead of 2030 World Cup

The Moroccan National Railway Office (ONCF) has announced the purchase of 168 trains of 168 trains worth $2.9 billion from leading companies in France, Spain and South Korea. The move is part of the country’s ambitious plan to expand the high-speed and urban rail network before the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with Morocco co-hosting with Spain and Portugal. The extension aims to double the number of cities associated with the country’s railway network by 2040, linking 87% of Morocco’s population. The agreement will allow Alstom, France, to supply 18 high-speed trains, Spain’s CAF develops 40 core trains, and South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem provides 110 city trains. France, Spain and South Korea will provide preferential financing to fund expansion projects.
