England 1-0 Spain: ‘A proper English performance’ secures Nations League win
The Shooter Park is one of many England players who will be confident of getting rid of the court.
Lauren James has performed well, Millie Bright is unrivalled in defense, and Lucy Bronze has been relentlessly dealing with Spanish forward Salma Paralloulo.
It was a show that encapsulated England’s best and was a perfect response to Friday’s 1-1 draw in Portugal.
“After the last game, we wanted to be more connected. We talked about just the proper English tonight,” Bright said.
“I mean fighting and defending each other, working hard and hard to defeat. It’s so important to defeat.”
Wiegman agreed that it was a “proper English” performance and emphasized the “fight and solidarity” in competing with Spain.
“It’s an absolute team performance and we fight for every yard,” she added.
“I think fighting and unity are the most important thing, it always starts with that. Of course, when you win, it brings the driving force.”
Afterwards, England players celebrated on the court, dancing with teammate Chloe Kelly, while the bronze fist blew into the stands.
They received heavy praise in the half-time, and the final whistle was welcomed again, while the Spanish players looked frustrated in the center of the stadium.
This is only the second match of the National League campaign, and the result has not had a significant impact on things, but it has made a significant boost to England’s preparations for the 2025 European Cup.
